HISTORY
Built in 1885, Casa Socarrás is one of the oldest mercantile buildings in Ybor City. Named for prominent early West Tampa pioneer and hero of the Cuban revolution, Fernando Figueredo Socarrás (1846-1929), it is also the original site of the El Liseo Cubano community center where Jose’ Marti delivered two of the 1891 speeches that united the Cuban people and launched the War of Independence from Spain.
